Asked by lphilipl 11 months ago, 30 answers.

I am thinking I need a religion in my life. What religion should I become, and why? Thanks!

Don't follow a religion because other people want you to or think you should - do some research and figure out which one you'd like to follow. For me, no religion makes complete sense to me so I chose to be atheist. I like being atheist because I have freedom and I don't feel like I have to follow a certain path or certain 'rules' in life.

Well, my recommendation is that you avoid organized religion completely and think for yourself. But you seem interested in finding a religion, so may I at least advise you to be careful. Organized religions are like street vendors. Each one will try to convince you to come in, browse around, and become a customer. The sales pitch for organized religions is a very old, and largely successful one.

May I also suggest you perhaps take some more time to think about why you want to have a religion in your life. You may find it's just a phase that passes.

Its really up to you to find something that'll fit you.
You should follow a religion that you think is the best. Just research the different religions and you decide which one you think is the best. Don't follow what other people think you should do. People don't need to force their religion on you.
You have the choice of choosing a religion if you feel that you should follow one. Good luck and just research all the different religions that are out there.

Just look at different religions and choose the one that most interests you in a spiratual way.

I agree with Kingofpop that you should try to stay away from organized religion, but it's completely up to you on what you wish to do with you're life.

And look beyond all of the 'popular' religions like Christianity and Chatholics, there are others like Budhism for example.

you can't ask other people what religion you should become. you can ask them what they believe and why, but it's completely up to you to choose what religion to be.
do some research, check out the facts and stuff on a lot of different religions. then make your desicion, not based on what other people said, but by what you believe.

I was brought up catholic(actually was briefly an alter boy), turned at a young age by born againers and very soon realised that what I had been taught was extremely hypocritical. so now I have no religion, although buddhism does interest me. something about a religion thats history isnt plagued by holy wars just does it for me

Pantheism
it goes back to cave men, why not?
or Shinto, it revolves around he natural world works on self enlightment self improvement. It's laid back.
I don't follow a religion however, I don't see the point.
BU they, if you feel the need to be grouped in with the other fish, do some research pick one that is most befitting for you.

Don't worry about a titled religion. Find what you believe (or don't believe) through research then if a religion that fits that than so be it. To follow any religion just to follow a religion won't do you any good

Just start going to services at different churches...until you find one that feels like you want to stay...You can do this for a lifetime...it's educational, too...

You do realize that not all religions go to church?
Just do some fine research see which one better suits you, that's about all you can do.

You should become a Pastafarian, because nothin is required of you, and when you die, you get a stripper factory and a beer volcano.

Dont listen to any of the crap here. Religion is something you should decide on yourself, and yourself alone. I suggest you take some time alone and think about your beliefs and see what you really believe in

Tell me more about this pastafarianism. If it involves eating lasagna while getting stoned, I may have converted years ago.

Wonderful...it is great to have faith. Faith in God will ease ones suffering.

This Quiz may help you...I think a good plan of act would be to take the quiz...but then study some of the that come closest to your belief system/morals now...no need to rush into the first religion blindly.

IMO- Tao...is the way. I am also Christian.

Wonderful...it is great to have faith.

Is it? Why?

Faith in God will ease ones suffering.

How? Those of us who are 'faithless' seem to be just as able to deal with suffering as those who 'have faith'.

who could 'faithless' be faithless???...I am pretty sure you also have faith arachnid...you do have faith in yourself correct? or no...I think every person in the world has faith in something...lphilipl I am sure already has faith...faith in god will just add to the existing faith...eventually gaining intuitive understanding and insight.

Also...arachnid...I didn't say that God is the ONLY way to ease or overcome suffering...these things can also help a great deal...right belief, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right meditation.
