Nationality of questioner.

Asked by dilsharma05 3 months ago, 3 answers.

I feel it would be helpful to answer question/s if one new the nationality of the asker. It would provide right perspective while answering.

I would tend to disagree with you. I think it would lead to type-casting which would quite often be inaccurate. I'm an American. But, so what. I have my own beliefs separate from those of national or governmental influence.

The only type-casting that I use when answering questions is to look at the age and gender of the individual. That helps me judge their level of maturity, knowledge and experience and whether their viewpoint 'might' be based upon a male's or female's reference point.

I admit that ANY type-casting is risky but a small reference point is necessary in order to begin forming an answer. However, I really think that type-casting based upon nationality can lead to too much cultural bias.

If you feel that it would help you while answering, just click on the asker's profile. It usually has the location listed there.

I agree with you in some situations knowing that the asker is from a country other than America could change how you word the answer (use less slang, easier terms for people who have English as a second or third language).

This is an issue that I both agree and disagree on. It is true that knowing the nationaliy would help draw a viewpoint. Different cultures of the world think differently, but it would cause racial slurs to be said on funadvice which is not needed. So I'm going with not telling the nationality of the questioner.
