My volume is gone!

Okay so I my volume dissapeared out of the blue...I go to start then all programs.
After I go to acessesories and then entertainment then volume control. After a box comes up saying I need a mixer device?...what do I do? How do I get it back?

you could try a system restore?
or you're soundcard is buggered..

Probably need chipset drivers. find out the name of your motherboard, go on google and type '[insert motherboard name here] chipset drivers' and download one
