This could continue for quiet some time...all you can do is keep taking them back to bed, and reassuring them that everything is fine. Reiterating that this is bed time, and they need to stay in bed, where it's nice and warm until morning. You need to make their bed time a routine and stick to it. I'm sure you probably do all of this anyway.
My daughter used to do this and I took her back to bed every night, finally one day she asked me if she could have a big girl bed (she slept in a toddler bed). I told her that if she started staying in her bed then we would get her one. It works, it's been 2 months and she only got out of bed maybe 3 times. She keeps asking for her big girl bed and she was told that she has to stay in her bed for 6 months to get it. She only has 4 months to go!!! She's very excited and is looking forward to having a bed like everyone else. Bribing them obviously isn't the answer but giving them something to look forward to might work.
Good luck
