How do I get this hook out of my kitten's mouth?

my kitten has a hook stuck it his mouth. he was playing with it so I took some pliers and cut off one end.but the other end is still in his lower lip it is now swollen we dont want to go to the doctor because it costs waaaayyyyy too much.it costs like $500 to take it out.I already tried to take it but its too hard I need new ideas of how to take that little peice if steel out. please help!!!!

You need to get the swelling down.... maybe ice. Then use pliers and cutters to remove the barb and then back out the hook afterward. Antibiotic gel would be nice but the cat my lick at the stuff. (Use the pliers to hold the barb as you cut so it doesn't fly out and cause more damage should it go into the kitty's mouth. Steady and quickly remove the hook while keeping the lip as taught as possible to aid in removing it.

I would advise taking it to the vet but if it costs too much then I don't know. Good luck.
