you can just simply say that, you understand how hard it must be on him, but it really makes you feel sad to hear him repeat himself all the time. I understand how annoying it may get, but death is never an easy thing to get through with, you being his friend, should understand how he feels, be there for him, and listen to his feelings!
simply tell him that the more he talks about it the more it will upset him but reasure im that you are there for him when he can't hold back and needs a friend to talk to. thats what friends are for and you never know when your going to be in that situation and you will need him to talk to. so please be there for your friend...sure talking about death is never easy and having to deal with it is just so much more pain. but theres a time when you have to swallow your pride and helps thoose who need help.
Just let him moan. He's having a hard time of it and needs someone to support him and obviously trusts you enough to talk about how he's feeling.
I know it's hard but thats what being a good friendship is about. Being there for each other.
There is really no other way of dealing with it, that won't damage things between you.
Good luck
