grandmother is under the impression that Iranians marry American women only to have kids and then take them back to Iran! I have no idea where she got that from!!! My boyfriend is also Muslim. My mom thinks that all muslims beliee that anyone who is not Muslim should be killed unless they convert! Again where they get this form I dont know! My aunt says that Middle Eastern men are abusive towards their wives! Shes like I know peole who were married to them It INFURIATES ME! It offends me too!! a lot! By downing my boyfriends heritage they are also downing me. Basically everyone who isnt white is out to get us!- said by my fam. I JUST WANT TO SLAP THEM ALL IN THE FACE AND TELL THEM TO GET A REALITY CHECK! I dont care that my boyfriend is muslim, I dont care that he is persian and armenian. I dont care that he has a persian name. Actually I feel lucky to be with him! because I love different cultures and learning about different religions and different languages! It excites me! I FEEL LUCKY TO SAY MYY BOYFRIEND IS PERSIAN. I mean none of my friends get to say that! I just wish that my family couyld overcome racism!

The world needs more people like you...who don't care about race or religion. Nothing will probably change their minds unless your boyfriend spends time around them and he shows them how nice he is...or something like that. I was in a town where black people don't normally go and you could tell I wasn't welcome, heck I was the only black person there, but once I showed everyone that I wasn't going to kill them or whatever, they loved me and said I could come back anytime.
Tell them how it hurts you that they cannot accept him. Tell them that you're with him and they'll just have to deal with it.
I hate it how people believe that their race is the sh*t and that other religons/races are just pieces of dirt.

People that think like that make me laugh I especially like the bit about children and Iran. Calm down sweetie, it's just the times they were brought up in. the media doesn't help matters.
They say things cause they are worried. Cause they have no understanding of things like that they fear it.
Stand firm and tell them he's your boyfriend, and it'd mean a lot to you if they gave him a chance. If they refuse, then just ignore there comments it isn't worth it. They don't have to love your boyfriend aslong as you do thats all that matters.

My family is the same way. My sisters boyfriend is black and freak out about it. They say the exact same stuff like: date someone american! They get to the point where sometimes they wont let him over. Hes super nice. But they say stick to your own culture or you'll have problems. Its so stupid! We live in 2008, not the 1800. It shouldn't matter your race!

I dont know many non-muslim people who are willing to be with a muslim person
first of all its great that someone like you is with someone and doesnt care about their race or religion

his family are portuguese and catholic..
it sounds like your family are generallising
even tho me and my family are muslim we aren't like what your family percieve muslims to be like
we're very easy going, open minded, and we respect people who arent muslim
it really gets on my nerves when people say that stuff
maybe you should bring your boyfriend round to meet your family, and show them how great you think he is and how much you love him
tell them they dont know him, and he's not what they think he is
and that they should open their minds and accept that you r happy
race, religion, culture, ethnicity, none of it should matter when it comes to the person you love

but it seems that your family is more tollerable than mine.
I've been dating a black guy- for 11 monthes.
the family found out, and said it was absoluetly unacceptable.
it killed me.
I cried and cried.
but then I thought, they cant make me not love him.
I sneek around and date him, do what I have to do.
I love him more than anything.
and im not going to let something like that stand in my way.
