My cat has a problem

looking' good with my rose!! Asked by lifeoftheparty20 about 1 year ago, 4 answers.

We recently moved my cat's litter box just like 10 feet from where it used to be. He was starting to make the litter get out of the box and get caught in our rug, so it was harder to clean. After we moved it, he used it fine for a little bit, but within the past few days Sammy has decided he can "dispose of his waste" by our back door. That's about 10 feet the other way. It's really gross and we have no idea what's making him do this!! Putting him by the box repeatedly and even cleaning it out more often didn't help. Does anybody have any ideas on why he would be doing this? Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Cats that are used to using a cat box then don't may be because of one or two reasons.

He may want to go outside instead of using the box. That might be why he is doing his thing so close to the door. My one cat prefers going outside to using the cat box but will use it if no one will let him out and the litter box is at least half full of soft sand AND it is mostly clean. My other cat prefers to go in the litter box and will come in from outside just to use it. She doesn't much care about it's condition.

Another thing that might of happened due to moving it was that your cat may not feel comfortable using it in the new place. They like their privacy and it it is too much in the open then he may feel he is being spied on.

Hope this helps you

if you ever had another animal in the house, the cat could be smelling this area as an area that the other animal used.at least thats what the deal was with mine.he started using the restroom in the area where one of my gators used to spend his time catching the sun through the window.I had to completely remove the smell with frebreeze then apply repellant to get him to stop.

Keep on keeping on Answered by echoecho6 on Nov 03, 2006, 10:11AM

I recomend moving the litter back to it's original spot. The litter in the carpet problem can be controlled by keeping a cordless hand-vacuum nearby for frequent use. Cats are "place oriented" and very territorial. They prefer to make their own changes. If the hand-vac is impractical for some reason, place the litter box on a boot tray, and that will catch most of the litter kicked out of the pan. Good luck.
