Moving out (under 18)

<3 Asked by jackjoneseatsx3 about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

Is there any way I can move in with a friend or someone other than my legal guardian? I'm seventeen and being here has just gotten too stressful. I believe I'd do better somewhere else, but don't know how I'd go about it.

I don't know about moving in with a friend, but you could talk to a social worker, and see about going into foster care. one of my best friends has been in and out of a foster home many times in the past few years, because there was too much stress at her house

Well I've heard some about being able to move out and choose where you live at seventeen as long as you're with an adult, and have parental consent. I don't know for sure, but I was just wondering if there was any truth to that.

You need a lawyer and everything for emancipation though, and you'll have to prove to a judge that you can take care of yourself, like, living on your own. This would be moving in with a friend and her parent, so I wouldn't be on my own. Plus- I can't exactly afford a lawyer at the moment.

well if you moved in with another family in order for you not to get in trouble or your friends parents not to get in trouble is by generating a contract of some kind saying that they (your parents) agree to you living in another home and make sure you get a witness third part signature. but it would have to be a legal form of some kind and be notarized.. I think a notary usually charges about $15. but honestly I have no idea if this is the legal/right way of doing this.. you should talk to a lawyer.. or child services to see what your options are.

Alright, that should do it. I'll try talking to someone who'd know a little more about this. Thank you guys. :D
