Can you move out at 17 in Texas?

Hi! I was reading your comment about moving out at 17 in the state of texas! hopefully you still remember this topic! I was just wondering if you could tell me where you got that info! I just turn 17 a few weeks ago! and my parents are divorced! and they are a pain! I have to go back and forth every week! and I just want to move out! tell me where you did your research so I can start my own research as well!! thank you!!!

You can actually move out in the state of Texas at 17 as long as you have a stable place to live, and keep going to school. Your parents/guardian cannot file you as a runaway, but the police may however make you call in once a week to your parents till your 18, or for the first 6 months. (whichever comes first.)

The age of majority (legal age you can move out) in Texas is 18. You must either get married or enlist in the military (both require parental consent) or simply wait until you reach 18 years of age. Another option is filing for emancipation, which requires you fill out paperwork proving you can financially support yourself. You file it in the courthouse and appear before a judge. If it’s passed and you become emancipated, you cannot come to your parents legally for financial help.
