Its an mp4 format I think that the ipod allows. So you need to find away to convert your movies into mp4 format. I have a program I payed 30 dollars for over the internet its called ipod to video and it allows me to burn my dvds to this ipod format and put them on my ipod video.

This is the link direct to the apple website that explains syncing video to ipod good luck happy

Yes you need to convert the videos. I found a great program to download that is free and not harmful.

Go on the website above and follow the instructions to download the program. Once it is downloaded it is pretty easy to convert videos using it. If you decide to use this program and you need any help with it then funmail me happy
Good luck!

itunes usually requires a certain file format for specific movies and it also depends on the ipod you have. If you have a newer 5th generation ipod e.g. itouch, you have to have a specific resolution, H.624 or 320x480 pixels. Itunes usually only accepts MPEG-4 format, but there are several good file converters, but itunes has a built in one which is rather slow especially if' it's a full-length movie. Also, be careful of when you download it from the web, it could be a virus or trojan embedded in the file if downloading from a P2P program such as limewire, or morpheus, your basically giving users on a huge online server access to your hard drive.

quicktime is a free program from apple inc. that will open your movie for free and allow you to save it into your desired mp4 ipod format for free which you can then drag into itunes for free
