I think you should be fine as long as you don't put two beta's together...they generally show aggression towards their own species..
And other fish with big fins are a no-no..

None Beta Fish eat other Beta Fish so im guessing that they eat any kind of fish

Advisor-small

As a general rule you shouldn't mix betas with other fish... However each fish is unique and has it's own personality so you can try it but be prepared to separate them at the first sign of aggression.

My beta was a male and I put catfish and platys in with him.
I never had a problem. As long as its not another beta you should be fine.

Beta has to be alone that is why he was alone when you got him.
