Yes usually you should get an email notification when someone has replied to your question, posted a comment on your profile, rated your photo etc.

it's send an email and you can see in your right hand it writes how many people answer your question.

I have asked many question and never got an e-mail on then, oh well! I always look again at mine and then its shows!
