How is the merchant of venice a comedy?

its a comedic allegory. an allegory is an extended metaphor, that uses objects, people, and actions in a peice of literature and relates them to meanings that lie outside the narrative itself. shakespeare uses comedy in the merchant of venice to add dramatic effect to the allegory.
