Memory triggers

I always tie happy memories to places, songs, objects, and stuff. Then after I dont consider them happy memories, such as a time with an ex boyfriend, when I see the triggers it makes me so depressed. Is this normal and does anyone know how to get over it?

it happens to a lot of people, its just how we're made, we associate smells, songs, places with memories. there's nothing wrong with it! if it's making you depressed then try making a new memory. like if you have memories of dancing with an ex to a certain song, then ask your new boyfriend to make new memories for you with the same song. write down on paper what you remember from each thing, then tear up the paper. have closure. sometimes you cant just causually move on from something, sometimes you got to seriously have a mental closing of the doors.
