getting closer to the real me! Asked by tresaeon 15 days ago, 2 answers.

How does the mind store memories that you don't remember doing, and yet you can't seem to remember your own name?

While they havent completely figured out how the whole brain and memory thing works, there is one theory that states there's two types of long term memory

Declarative which is explicit: these are consciously brought forth, divided into semantic memory, facts without context, (you dont necessarily remember how you know it) and episodic memory, which includes context (like remembering a story).

Procedural which are implicit: things you just do automatically after you've done them enough times, like you just know how to drive home without thinking about the route...

So even if you lose parts of one memory, you've still got others... memory is stored in different areas of the brain...
