wooo meeting off the internet is scary. I met a few people and it was a HUGE mistake. make sure your friend meets in a PUBLIC place. like a mall or a coffee shop or a movie theater, some place with a lot of people around. that way if things start to get sketchy your friend can bail without making a scene, and if things do get sketchy theres people around. as for not living up to expectations, relax. 99% of the people online are deceptive and the odds are that your friend is going to be the one who is disappointed.
I think maybe you should go along, like act as the 'conductor' or whatever to help keep things running smoothly. im sure your friend would really appreciate it.
plus maybe ask your 1st firend what e expects him to be like, and use that
Tell your friend to relax, and don't expect any more from the person he is meeting than he would want to be expected of himself. No one is perfect. If the other person is uppity and judges him, that person doesn't deserve to have a relationship with your friend. Also, he may want to pull the old blind date trick, and have a friend call him with an 'emergency situation' fifteen minutes after they are supposed to meet.
tell him to relax and be him self

My friend is scared he will not live up to expectations
My friends meeting a kid of myspace, I know him in real life and he's scared because he doesnt't want to be not what he expected.
and unimpressive.
any ideas?
