Mccain/powell

my daughter chopped my head off Asked by rickd about 1 month ago, 3 answers.

I believe Powell would be a sure way for McCain to win the Presidency. Actually I think Collin Powell would be a better President than McCain, And not just because he is black (mebes). Ever since I read 'my American Journey' by Collin Powell I have thought that he would be a good president.

If, by some small chance, McCain offered and Powell accepted, I'm sure Powell would need some reassurance that his opinions won't be casually tossed aside, like they were with the last president he worked for.

That being said, it might help McCain a little, but not that much.

The BIG divide between the two seems to come down to the war...
I believe McCain is hurting because many who normally would vote for him want out of Iraq. To align himself with a military leader might not be the best way to gain votes.
I think a better way to go would be with a more moderate, non-military associated republican.

McCain walks a fine line. If he picks a moderate VP than he will alienate the conservative wing of the Republican party who already distrusts him. If he picks a conservative than more moderate voters may cross over to Obama.

What if McCain choose Ron Paul? Dr. Paul is a maverick like McCain used to be. Dr. Paul is a conservative but has been against the war in Iraq from the beginning so he could appeal to both the bedrock of the Republican party and to moderates against the war. Remember that even though Ron Paul never had the numbers he needed his supporters were among the most passionate.
