Hi,
1. Figure out where to send the file to. Send a picture message or text message to your email account. This will give you an address to reply to your phone. (For Verizon phones, it will likely be something like (your phone number)@vzwpix.com).
2. Open Apple's iTunes software.
3. In iTunes, select the song that you want to make into a ringtone. Get Song Info.. on the song by pressing Command-I, Ctrl-I or by right clicking and selecting Get Song Info.. This will bring up a dialog box with information about the song you selected.
4. Click the Options tab. In this tab, you'll see two spaces at the bottom for Start and Stop Playback. Remember that your ringtone should be short. If you want, you can have the song start, say, in the middle, also. Enter in the values that you want in these fields.
5. Change the settings to make your file small enough to fit on your phone. Go into the iTunes preferences (iTunes or Edit menu) and click the Advanced tab. Then click the Importing tab in the center.
6. Where it says Setting: click the menu and select Custom. A dialog box will come up.
7. Keep things small. Mono with a sample rate of under 32kHz works well. Just remember that this will be played through a tiny speaker in your pocket.
8. Close the preferences and find your song again. Right- or Control-click the song title. Click Convert to MP3 Once this is finished, you'll see two versions of the song. The ringtone is the one that is shorter and has a lower bitrate.
9. Right- or Control-click the ringtone and select Show Song File This will locate the file on your hard drive.
10. Attach the file to an email and send it to the address that you found at the beginning. In just a minute or so, your phone should receive your file.
11. Go to your message options and save the sound clip. Set it as a ringtone.
12. Call your phone, sit back and bask in your new ringtone!
