Carbohydrates are the body's preferred fuel. Simple carbohydrates (sugar, honey, corn syrup, refined flour) can be problematic but whole grain complex carbs are good for you (of course too much of anything can be bad for you).
The best way to loose weight is a sensible diet with lots of whole grains, vegetables, and fruits.
I lost 80 lbs doing a combo. basically chicken breast, green veggies(broccoli, lettuce, asparagus, brussel sprouts, cucumbers), tuna, turkey, egg whites, diet drinks, flavored water, coffee, tofu, no sugar jello, etc it has been the greatest thing I've ever done and I can eat all day and not worry.
You must consume fewer calories than you burn. Still, most Americans ALSO need to modify their diets by cutting back on the carbs. Most Americans have lost the ability to burn anything other than carbohydrates as fuel. So, if by losing weight, you mean losing fat (as opposed to water), you need to retrain the body to burn fat (go into a stage of ketosis). The easiest way to do that is to cut back on carbohydrates (forcing the body to burn stored body fat). I'm not advocating cutting all carbs. Non starchy veggies are fine (lots of fiber, few calories). I'd also try to eliminated saturated fats from your diet (you are trying to burn stored fat..nmo sense feeding the body more sats). Lean meats, lots of veggies, nuts are fine, fish oils are also fine.
