I fancy someone but they're in year 9 and I'm only in year 8. What should I do?

so you are in 8th grade and he or she is in 9th? well act really mature around him but act as if you were his/hers age you will be there next year and think back to if someone loves you in another grade than you! ask that person out instead it will do you good to be the leader and not the follower!
