what do I do if the guy I love, tells people he loves me and cares about me, but says we can't be together. because he can't forgive himself for everything that happened in my life. yet acts like he hates me. what do I do?

well we've gone out before. adn he cheated on me and dumped me. and we kinda went on and off for a while. and now we don't even talk. and he was my bestfriend and I miss him. but completely asks as he wants me dead. but he blames himself for whatever happens inmy life even if it's the stupidest things. and he said he can' ever be with em because he can't forgive himself for cheating on me like 5 years ago..
