What has happened to the word love?

What has happened to the word love?
Maybe it's just me but it doesn't seem right any more. Because so many people just say I love you like to a friend or to a guy. But do you really like them? Probably not?

Why do we all use this word?
Does anyone...

else feel like the word love has lost it's meaning?
Maybe it's just me but if you agree or disagree let me know

Ah, love. The most popular, yet the most mysterious word on the face of the earth.

What is Love? Is it an action? Is it a meaning? Is it an emotion? What is it? Is it a verb? Is it a noun? What is it?

Love is neither. Love is a word that deserves nothing more than a lowercase l. love What is love?

love is a word which has been used over time to express many great things. Nature, heart, feeling, emotions. But one can lose interest in another and thus lose interest in love. Then as time progressed we lost interest in love. Now all we have is this word that means nothing anymore. Now all we really have is an immense attraction brought on by pheromones and emotions, but how awkward is that? Honey, I'm immensely attracted to you because of pheromones and emotions. How do you feel? No...we don't say that, we just say love. Honey, I love you.

However, I must say. There's a small handful of people on this great Earth that DO believe in Love (see? Capital L)! Real love, true Love. Is it an action? Is it a meaning? Is it an emotion? Is it a verb? Is it a noun? I tell you YES! It is all of the above.

All we need is Love. John Lennon knew Love. Look what the nonbelievers did to him. All we need is Love. Are you willing to put your life down for real Love? True Love? I am.

Love. I believe in it. Love everywhere. The birds. The trees. The animals. The people. The air. Love with a capital L. Love.

Yes, I feel like the word Love has become almost a joke to some people. It get's thrown around so carelessly and used in the wrong situations. You can't truly love someone until you know everything about them, until you accept their flaws, until you have spend a significant amount of time with the person, until you know them on a mental and physical level. Love is one of the strongest emotions, and people seem to confuse it with Lust/Infatuation/Like.

I agree, a lot of people say I love you because they want something from the other person and think that this is the way to get it. However I have friends that I have been friends with for over 10 years and we tell each other often that we love each other, we have been through marriages, divorces, births and deaths together. Some people do not over use while others do. Some people think of it as just words while others use the words to express their feelings.

yeah, we all write ily at the and of texts/emails ect. (Im a big culpret!). I think maybe it's just that it has developed to many meanings... like you love your family, you love your friends, but you then say you love your partner/ boyfriend/husband/wife/girlfriend woteva. there all different meanings. I think people no the difference... but I can see your point, most people just through it around lightly!!!
