Lighting

Asked by hlove 6 months ago, 5 answers.

I am all about the going green and saving energy thing. I was wondering what I should do when I just walk out of my room for a few minutes and then return... if I walk away from my room with the lights on for a few minutes, then come back, does that...

save more energy than actually turning the lights off before I leave then turning them back on when I come back? I was wondering this becuase I once heard that when you first turn the lights on, it takes up more energy.

So is this true? and which the the better way to save energy? I know this may be a little confusing but its actuyally a very important question. please read this thoroughly.

Like I have heard during commercials on Nickelodeon about saving energy,if possible have your parents remind you to turn most electric-powered things in your room off even when your not using them all. As we speak my lights and TV aren't on,the only thing I have one is my fan and this computer. To show you Going Green spirit, wear green every other day to let those know your helping the environment.

im not sure about your first question
but one way to save energy is to buy energy saving light bulbs
there a bit more expensive than regular a light bulb
but they tend to last longer, there a little less brighter, and they save a lot more engery
some even stay bright for the first minute then autimatically go a bit darker after that to save even more energy
so if you havent got them already, try switching to energy saving light bulb

There is a small surge of electricity when a light is turned on but it really is no big deal. With incadescent bulbs you are better off turning the lights out whenever you leave a room, the surge only represents enough electricity to run it for a fraction of a second. Florescent bulbs burn out more quickly when they are frequently cycled (turned off and on) so in this case you may be better off leaving them on when you are only leaving the area for a moment.

with most types of lightbulbs, there is a tiny surge of electricity when its turned on. However, it is better to shut the lights off when you leave a room because the electricity used keeping the light on while you're not in the room is MORE than what it takes to start it: unless its a florescent tube, which takes the most electricity to start.

It cost more money to turn things off and on then it does to just leave it on if you're coming right back
