Shorthair kittens begin to open their eyes at 5-8 days
Longhair kittens do not open their eyes until 10-14 days

I never heard that before ?? But they open their eyes between 7-10 days. Like everything some take longer than others.

It's usually between 10 and 14 days.

DSH (Domestic Shorthair) and DLH (Domestic Longhair) don't have any difference in time when they open their eyes. For any domesticated cat, it's between a week and a half to two weeks.
