Just give her healthier foods. Lots of fruits, veggies, beans and such. Read all the nutrition information on the boxes of things now. You don't necessarily have to give her things like Slim Fast. Just things any mum would DIE to get their kids to eat. Take advantage of this. =]

well she might want to diet just to eat better. and not nessesary wants to loose weight but stay at her own weight. I think I wanted to start eating better and less carbs at 13 or 14 its prob becuase shes going into middle school and feels more self concious dont worry about it. Try this make a really healthy dinner and if she doesnt want to eat it that might be a problem. Alsoremind her that a starvation diet accually makes you gain weight because your matabolism slows down good luck.

Dear bethew,
who's the parent here??? Seems you have lost control of your home to a 12 year old. Of course you do not let her diet, that is insane to say the least. A mother's job is to protect their children from falling for all the diet hype.
I suggest you may want to put your proper age on your profile so we are able to help with advice better. A women of 66 would know better.
Sue...good luck

dont tell her shes on a diet
just give her healthier foods

tell her she needs to eat healthy
no chips cookies any of that junk
let her eat how she ususally does but take away the junkfood
try to give her less bread and cereal
get wheat bread---its all fiber which means she'll poop it out
no candy or esepcall NO COCALA or sodass
those are all bad

sue90 - you cant stop someone doing what they want all the time. You can advise them not ot do certain things and stuff but cant phisically stop them. If you tell someone they cant do something they are more likely to go against what you say. Ok a diet isnt the best thing to let your daughter do but like others say, buy her fruit and veg and basically healthy foods that she should eat if she wants to loose weight or just eat healthily. That is more or less a diet because it means shes cutting down on the amount of junk food and fizzy juice and she is getting healthy food which is better for her in the long run anyway.

If her weight is average she shouldnt be dieting because she could end up with eating problems or other things. If its over you should cunsoult a doctor.

Healthy foods. Just make sure you don't let her stop eating, you wouldn't want her getting anerexic at such a young age.

My best advice is a mix of the others and some of my own. Make sure you serve her healthy meals, a balanced diet, etc. And make sure she knows that the women in the fashion magazines are not real!! They are all airbrushed!! These girls today are tormented into thinking they have to be perfect because they see all these supermodels as 'role models'. It is disgusting. I just hope that my 3 year old daughter comes into her own without being pushed into thinking that size 2 is perfect.
