Introduce change gradually - don't force everybody to become vegan overnight or anything. Try shopping for healthier alternatives to what you buy now, things that taste very close, but not exactly, what you cook / feed the family today.

People usually eat junk food when watching TV, when bored, when they want a snack etc. and often the reason for their choice is just because there's nothing else around. Vending machines only have junk food, convenience stores have mostly junk food, and Whole Foods is just too far and too much trouble. So make sure that you have in the house at all times healthy stuff your family can snack on, which is also tasty and fun - like nuts, dried fruit, power bars, honey, etc. As about what junk food does to your body... Well it has too much fat and sugar, which can cause obesity, problems with the heart and circulatory system (risk of a heart attack), and a ton of other nasty things, if eaten too often or in excess.
