I got an appointment as well with Jobs Partnership, but you can also call the St.Vincent STAR Program. Which is a work development program that helps everyone work through their barriers. 317-329-2884. St.Vincent Hospital does hire people with felonies, however they do base where you are placed off of the charge you have. Also DHL, FedEx, UPS and Hoosier Gasket hirings ex-felons. Keep your head up people. We are all in this struggle together, so we must encourage each other through our storms. Also I went to a workshop about having your record expunged, sealed and pardoned. Expungement: only for people that were arrested but charges were dropped. Sealing: if it's been 15 years since the sentence was completed and there was no subsequent convictions. You can call 317-232-8266 for information. Pardons: You may file a peition for pardon of a criminal conviction with the parole board. Petitions can be found at: http://www.cjpf.org/clemency/IndianaApp.pdf
Very few pardons are granted. Only those whose convictions that are a one time blip on their record, and who have made themselves valuable members of society are granted a pardon by the Governor. I pray this information helps someone.
I am 26 years old and 5 years ago(Dec 27th 2003)I was arrested and charged with Posession with intent to sell/distribute,conspiracy to sell cocaine and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling all because I was being the DD for a bunch of my friends and on my way home got stopped at a roadblock and the cops saw a 7 gram bag of cocaine on my rear floorboard through my window.I am not whining even after the year of prison and 2 years of probation...this is just my story.
Last year I made $93,762.39 according to my 1099 and w-2 selling cars.Did I lie to the dealership...nope... told them when I sat down for my interview and at the end told them after they told me that they liked me for me that I am a felon...that was a week out of prison and now I have been selling cars for 2.5 years now...
It has its ups and downs but it...and yes I know what I am about to write...but...it is an honest business half the people I work with are ex-cons.Since I started selling cars I have seen turnover like no other as far as salespeople go...at last count I have worked with 174 people who have moved on either to another dealership or to another line of work...it takes thick skin to be in this business and you dont make a lot of money right away but I can boast a $14,583.42 paycheck for last august alone. With the turnover in this business all the managers want is someone to rely on someone who will come in and work the hours day in and day out...For those out there reading this give it a try... it cant hurt you!!!You might be good at it...you might make more money than you ever thought you could...and damn it feels good when you sell a car to a cop who makes 35k a year and you the felon is making 3 times that...damn good feeling!!!
I was charged with felony theft for not returning some movies to a video store when I moved out of state. my roommates were supposed to take them back for me and they didnt. so the owner sid they were worth 200 dollars a piece because they were new releases. so after 7 months in jail I took the plea bargain. now I am on 10 years probation and have a felony and cant get a good job for nothing. so dont tell me I did this to myself. the system did this too me and I am furious about it. it like they want us to break the law to survive because they make more money and jobs by keeping the felon and prison population up. that is why there are so many privately owwned prisons going up everyday. when there are open beds they will do whatever it takes to fill them. we are all just cattle with dollar signs stamped on us. I will never rent another movie as long as I live. so I just download them off the internet. lol illegally ha ha
I WAS an over the road truck driver for 21 years until my layoff three months ago. Prior to driving a truck, I was a product of Assembly Line Justice (injustice) is a far better word. Anyhow, I began driving shortly after leaving prison, 23 years ago. I have maintained a trucking job, for 21 years.
I have never had any employee theft, truck abandonment and so forth on my record. Yet now after 21 years in trucking, my felony seems to be an issue. I cannot find work anywhere. When the trucking industry was in great need of drivers, oh yes they would hire me. I always gave them 100%. Now that diesel is approaching five dollars a gallon, and trucking companies are going out of business like crazy. There is no more driver shortage, so they now have a problem with hiring a convicted felon.
I feel so frustrated. What am I supposed to do to support myself and my family. I'm writing this to let any convicted felon know. Don't waste your time and money going to truck driving school. If I can't get a job in the industry I have been in for twenty one years, with an excellent work record. Then you can forget about it at the entry level.
And to the ignorant person above, who entered the forum just to bash people with a felony. You have a very small mind. You might just be the victim of the felon that wanted to work, really wanted to change, but couldn't find work. So he/she went back to a life of crime and robbed and shot your dumb a**...
twitchyx is a dumbass
a real loser
probably has no friends
if does they are his kind
sooner or later the system will catch up with him too.
then lets see
how he can handle it, he thinks he is so smart
Anyone have any idea where to look for jobs for ex-felons in the Detroit, Michigan area? Better yet, the Downriver area..
You probably want to check hard2hire out if you haven't yet. It's basically a careerbuilderesque site for people with criminal records, disabilities, etc. and it lists the types of records that the employers will accept so you already know before sending an application. (It used to be hard2hire.org but I think it's http://www.hard2hire.com now)
What is an Felon? Is it someone who steals tissue or is it someone who sells drugs to those with addictions? as tax payers we spend half of our hard earned taxes to put people with dumb crimes in jail then sit them out into society to die for pettiness. Look at reason we have true crimes to look for in felons like sexual predators that rape and kill our children and family members but those are not true felons. We have murderers that kill due to there upbringing nature but nope those are not criminals. But you get someone who stole a roll of tissue, someone who gets into a school fight as a teen, or someone who is trying to truly protect themselves, oh and the newest crime DUI and wallah we have ourselves an felon. Look at how silly we are we hire mexicans and border jumpers and now we judge off the word without truly looking to the fact that people should not be so discriminative towards all crimes because the reason for the commitment of these crimes have a meaning. On an application it asks if you committed a crime and please explain and if I come out and say well I was 15 and I had a school fight that injured someone, then can you say that I am a true felon? The word felon is described best as saying someone who continues criminal acts. How can we be so judgemental to someone who was so hungry that they had to steal and now are a felon verses someone who continually find crime making fun and when they are ready to turn there life around it is to late. I feel like we need to be more in depth to those who hold such records because not all of us like crime and because we commited such acts does not make us bad because the lady that kills her boyfriend for years of abuse may not be all that bad but just wanted protection and not all those who sell drugs kill.If I was an employer I would be more diligent to reallt meet the person before me holding a background and look deeply into there record just to see what it was they had done and if it is extensive then maybe then should you say I can or cannot hire you. The world is wasting its time on things of no importance. Rather then figure out why our priests are raping and molesting our children rather why did bobbie's mom let her man beat her son or why is that man standing there with a gun to kill you is insane thinking. Why can't society be more in depth and noisy enough to see what was the crime how long and are you a continuous criminal wasting my companies tax dollar verses oh you smacked someone or oh you spit on the sidewalk wow ! those are real crimes.
I am not a felon but I have family members who are. I see how difficult it is for them. All I can say is utilize every program available to you. Find out what programs your state offers for felons. Many of them will help you with pursuing your education. Whether you are a felon or not you have to have a skill. If you do not you will have a very very hard life.
I firmly believe, and I have told my brother the same, as a felon you have to be prepard to be self employed. Start an ebay business, learn to do gardening, plumbing, air conditioning or refrigerator repair, exterminators. Learn to do taxes. Start a business dog walking or painting the house numbers on the curb infront of peoples homes. Get a hot dog cart. Get an ice cream cart. Learn to put up Grage doors. Borrow a truck and help people move. Contact banks and realtors and offer to clean and paint foreclosures.
You have to get creative. You have to start thinking like an entrepeneur. You can not depend on someone to give you a fair chance. You can not depend on someone to see through your criminal record and hire you. Especially in this economy when employers are flooded with people who have more training and education and no record.
Remember when you are applying to be an employee you are always going to be asked it you have a felony. You will then be judged accordingly. But when you are skilled and can provide a service directly to the public no one will inquire about your criminal record. When is the last time anyone asked their plumber or mechanic or garage door installer about their criminal record. They dont.
The other important thing is to present yourself as a professional and reliable person. I see people who say that they cant find jobs but they walk around looking suspect. They are not appropriately groomed. The pants are too baggy and too low. I tell them, I wouldnt hire you if you had law degree because you do not present yourself properly.
Just remember to keep trying. Make a plan and wor toward your goals. All of you are good at something. If you dont have a skill get one. Dont dwell on your mistakes just do what you can to move forward to a better future.
The system is a complete joke. It's so easy to become a felon. I'm a convicted felon from an assault and battery crime from when I was 14 years old. That's my only conviction. I was there when my mother's boyfriend punched a guy in the face and the police arrested everyone. I went to trial and lost because my mother and her boyfriend didn't show up to testify for me. The victim was lying through his teeth saying that we all were hitting and kicking him,but it's not true. I live in Massachusetts and here, there is no difference between juvenile or adult. They treat you the same. I'm disqualified for life from owning firearms, can't get certain jobs, etc. I'm considered a violent felon and I've never hit anyone my whole life. nice system we have huh?
I read all the postings but the one from twitchyx was the only troblesome. I worked in the federal system and because of a corrupted Supervisor(s)I was arrested and lost my job in the spot. After, 2 years of fighting the System(the feds) I gave up and and took a plea. I did not have the energy to continue fighting. My family was and still devastated by this failed system. I am a professional or was. I lost all my licensures and promising careers. With two useless BAs in Business management and Accounting and no job. I took my retirement funds because my childred needs shelter and food in the table. And cant afford an bankrupcy attorney.
Today a had an job interview and the Interviewer had the guts to tell me tell me who with and I tell you whoyou are...and he is not willing to hire me. I reply to him that thanks for the opportunity and I wish that non of his loves ones go to the same issues that I presently going thru. The system does not work there is no help for our citizens. My probation officer complaints that they have to much work but they only pick my montly report and only observed 16 cases. In my previous job I used to complete over 30 cases a day, and the old Judge Mckenna couldnt see set up in front of his eyes .
This had being the toughest road I had being in my life. But the only thing that keeps me going is my children. If not I will have taken my life a long time ago. Thank you God for helping me to fight.
As a Society American has become out of touch with reality and not looking and what our nation is turning into.
Self employment is the route to success. in my opinion there is no such thing as a good job...no matter how much it pays, it's just doing a job for far less than it is worth.I know a lot of people feel they would love to own their own business but dont feel they have the money. this was true in the past but in today's web market, there are cheap solutions to this problem and they do work. my advice, try companies like dropshippingwholesalers.com ($167 for a website and half a million products) or doba.com or worldwidebrands.com. all of these sites send the product straight to the customer and theres no inventory fee (just usually a website fee or monthly fee) The problem is not having startup cash, the problem is having a marketing strategy( that basically means answering one simple question: why is the customer going to buy from me instead of the other guy?) the better you answer that question, the more you will make...I too am an ex felon and know the difficulties in employment. you can truly buck the system by being successful reguardless. dont let an unforgiving society determine your exsistence...I hope you will check out these sites and others and I hope you find some level at success with them. personally, I am in the process of getting a site together that I feel will cure my employment woes. a piece of marketing advice...my strategy is simple, I will reward my customers by allowing them to build their own referral base and earn a commision of each otheir referrals each time a referral shops until the customer has recieved a full rebate on all purchases. If you like the idea, steal the idea(I know you know how to steal)...perhaps if a lot of us ex felons use the idea, we will not only cure our finacial problems but redefine the face of business. good luck to anyone who reads this. dont commit the crime of giving up on yourself.
get to it...Suicide King
Whoever said a convicted felon can get a tax id but not run their own business shouldn't be giving out advice here. I live in CT. Not a felon-friendly state. I have a felony conviction from 1994 that is NOT expunged. I currently own my own business that I run. It's an LLC, a pizza place. There was not one single question on any of the forms I had to fill out about having a felony or any conviction for that matter.
That being said, if you wanted a vendor's license, the rules change from town to town. For example, in West Haven, CT I could own a pizza place but wouldn't be able to get a vendor's license to sell ice cream in a truck because of my conviction. It doesn't make any sense, but there it is. The best bet is to check your local laws. There are no federal laws on the subject as it relates to being a small business. Obviously, if you try to sell liquor, guns, etc you might run into problems.
I am totally sympathethic with so many of you and I have to call it like it is. I've lived a shitty life on account of one stupid mistake that turn into a million and one if you know what I mean.
In my case I have nobody to turn to, no family. Imagine a yound 18 year old who got out of a very abusive disfunctional household that kept their children sheltered from society I never looked back.
I was at the start of Freedom, not knowing a damn thing about life. Had two friends that I met at the local fast food work. Long story short, I got a second job in a classy steak house. I was so happy we went shopping at the mall and on a Dare at Burdines, I took several items.
Of course in my mind I thought they'd take me to an office and give me the third degree. Guess what? I never made it to my new great job. To top that off when I got out, I got kicked out of where I used to live.
I have lived the UGLINESS OF HUMAN KIND, believe me what I've been through I would not wish it on those who choose not to like me. I got to work temporarily in employment place and I have quite a good idea on how difficult it is for us felons to get jobs.
You run into a lot of those who want to take advantage of you and not pay you what you are worth. There are so many Dirt bags out there and to be honest these people that say it's all about you and your attitude on Life.
Yeah right, keep dreaming...send me of copy of that fantasy story...ha, ha...
The fact of the matter is that while a few of you may have miraculous success stories, the majority simply don't and that's through no fault of our own.
I believe the best answer given here was the one about trying to set your own home business up.
Sure it costs and most of us don't have that kind of money but if you can use a way to get to a means then you are half-way there. I have survived by the scratch of my chinny chin chin but one thing that I have always had for myself is my Self worth and trusting that I can find a way to make a better life for myself.
Shoot, I sure as hell ain't waiting for one of these Snob jobs to throw me a bone...cause that's what it is Ladies and Gentlemen...A Bone...
We are personal pets that they use until you Fret about it. Anyhow sorry for the long strokes but I decided to answer this to let those who don't know and have a home computer and obviously can get online...know that there is atleast one option that is very real and pays money daily...well maybe not today but when you complete.
It's been hard for me to attract people to it because they are very Skeptical which I don't blame them as there are so many Scams out there and I myself have been caught spending what little money I have in those useless programs or affiliate op's.
This industry do not look at who you are and what your background is because it is an Incentivized industry.
The best way I can describe it is you buy into trial products via a link that you get from somebody who referred you and they in turn for your completion get a prize or a cash prize. This is where you come in, when you complete successfully according to the proper steps.
You get 50% of that Cash prize and you are paid via Paypal. There are programs that charge from $40 on up to teach you this industry but I charge nothing in return for you completing my links and me paying you.
I in turn, Teach you the industry inside out and how to do this yourself by giving your links out and paying someone yourself. Infact for anyone who wants to join me, you don't really need to complete a lot of sites to make this work and those who sign up on my site will have automatic referrals.
For anyone who is Serious about making money at home and don't mind spending minimal money to get a cash prize while at the same time getting your own link to do the same please email me to Fun mail me
I've been mentoring on this industry for two years and I know I can help you...just as I need your help to help my business grow, I can help you grow your own freebie business or give you pointers in how to create your own online business when you are running on a budget.
I am by far not a Scammer, I am a Single mother who have more than lived the nightmares you all go through and sure I could use your help but so can you.
So why not we help each other, God Bless you All,
they make it so damn hard for someone trying to turn their life around that 99% of conviicted felons give up and go back to there old ways.
I am a felony in oklahoma cant find a good job single mother just went though a divorce I have a low paying job I need a 10-12dollar job walmart wont even hire me
