So basically it's not decaffinated?

Asked by fau 8 months ago, 3 answers.

Ok so I know I'm going to get negative stuff on this, but I've been dying to ask it.

Ok so I drink coffee a few times a week at the most, and I drink decaffinated, but then I add lots of milk and sugar, so it tastes better, so basically it's not...

decaffinated anymore because of all that sugar!

Is that really weird ?

There's no caffeine in sugar - your coffee is still decaf.

...except that few (if any) decaffeinated coffees are 100% caffeine-free. Whether the caffeine is removed through chemicals, or other processes, here's always a little bit that remains (check the coffee labvelling).

Now if you're just trying to cut down on caffeine, no problem. But if you want to avoid all caffeine for dietary or religious reasons, it's worth bearing in mind. A strict Seventh-Day Adventist friend of mine uses only coffee substitutes, like chicory and Postum .

1. decaf coffee isn't completely decaf, there's still some caffeine
2. sugar doesn't have caffeine, but it does give you a sugar rush, then a crash later
3. it's not weird! caffeine is bad for you, but coffee tastes good with milk and sugar
