Well it depends... are you getting enough sleep (I.e. is it effecting your life), or is it distressful? disorders, or problems are not set in stone... if you look at a couple of crucial things that are needed to diagnose a disorder it either has to be dangerous to the person, distressing, (and there's two more ds, for the life of me I cant remember them), but point is, unless it is something that you feel is effecting you, or that is messing with your life, I wouldnt worry about it...
and yeah, those are called compulsions... but again, the best students are a little compulsive, so this does boil down to how you see this...
oh and a little hint... as long as you continue to study when you start to obsess about it, the longer the obsessions will continue... force yourself not to study in the middle of the night when you do wake up and eventually the thoughts will go away (because after all, no one is pointing a gun to your head, this is all in your power),

Is this normal?
I get these impulses to study weird stuff at random
like I can wake up at 4 am and just be like hey I gotta go study the psychological effects of drug usage or hey lets go study the transmission of nerve impulses.
and when I get these impulses I HAVE...
to follow them like I can't just shrug them off and go back to sleep.
Is this something I should speak to a psychologist about?
