Is this a friend?

Asked by southparkhou 10 months ago, 7 answers.

friends wrecked my rental cars over four years ago. I wasn't in the car with them. I trusted that they would be careful. they were drinking coming from a party. I ended up oweing the rental company $25,000 after the totaled it they failed to help me...

pay it off. they stopped calling me, one called every now and then. not until until recently after I pleaded for help did one of them offer to pay a small portion. I didn't feel like they genuinely wanted to help but wanted to shut me up. I am still paying on the car. Ii have forgiven them I feel like God is trying to tell me to move on. is this a friend?

I don't think you need an all-knowing deity to tell you that they're obviously not particularly good friends.

If they were truly a friend and their heart in the right place, they would have made this wrong right without having to be asked - you are right to forgive them certainly but they've proven not to be friend materiel - I'd move on...I wish you the best !!

She might not have a lawsuit, unless the driver was listed on the rental agreement. If she let another driver use the rental, then it is her liability. That doesn't meant these deadbeats shouldn't pay, but there is probably no legal action that can be takem. But it still couldn't hert to talk to a lawyer.

And, no, they are not your friends.

The old saying goes, with friends like that, you don't need any enemies... however, many people today, shirk their responsibilites, and unless you stand up for yourself, they will continue to walk all over you.

People who abuse friendhips, recognize ones they can abuse.

Turn it around, and see if there isn't a way you can legally hold them responsible for their actions, rather than you having to be the responsible party.

People continue to trash people, because they get away with it. You are not doing them any favors, by allowing this, if you have any recourse, and I would think you should.

It is good that you are able to forgive them, however, they still need to be held accountable, otherwise, they will continue to treat others in this fashion.
