Is there such a thing as nothing?

the beatles Asked by iamcool 2 months ago, 15 answers.

Is there such a thing as nothing? Like, you can't look at nothing, you can't do nothing, and even in space there is no nothing.

You could give someone nothing for Christmas! haha or get nothing for your birthday if you've been bad!

It would depend on the meaning.

Like stephanief987 said, you could get nothing as presents.

But as you said, you can't look at, or do 'nothing'.

So it depends...

Actually, in space there are areas of nothing--it's called a vacuum.

Nothing is not something, it's the lack of all things. So no, it doesn't exist. 'nothing' is not even a coherent concept, because it implies the nonexistence of logic as well.

Were you trying to think of a question to post and said to yourself 'I have 'nothing' to write about and so that's what you did?

I think it depends.

No, it has been scientifically proven there is no such thing as a total void. Even in vacuum, you still have fluctuations at the quantum level. Strong evidence for the Big Bang, but I'm sure that topic will be debated again on here relatively soon.

Even a vacuum is something, because it is a vacuum.

well yes there is no such thing as a perfect vacuum, even those in space arent completely void, but if it was, then you'd have an area of nothing... just because we give it a name doesnt make it something...

NO THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NOTHING. EVEN IF YOU WRITE THE WORD NOTHING DOWN, IT'S STILL CONSISTED OF LETTERS. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY TO THINK,TOUCH,SMELL,HEAR, OR SEE NOTHING.

peebs, something can exist without you being able to touch it, etc.

Ty, Are you saying that if nothing were something, than it would no longer be nothing (it would be something). But that proves that it was nothing at one time. That is...before it was something.

ty, giving a vacuum a name does make it something.
