Is there another way to change my username?

free hugs!!! Asked by stopandsmelltheroses 11 months ago, 3 answers.

is there absolutely NO way to change your username without deleting everything else in your account? because I want to change my username to 'stop'n'smelltheroses'- my current username is my old nickname and its reall why not me anymore.

could you big cheeses please get a way to change usernames?

this is my idea:
when you go to the profile page you could have a list of your old usernames somewhere on it, so people know who you *were*. and if they click on a link of your old name from a previous posting, then theyll be notified that they are being re-directed to that persons new-name's profile (which will be exactly the same as the old one)

or you could just change every single mention of that person's username to the new one, and have a section on the home page that tells you *so-and-so has been updated to blah-blah-blah*

so thats my idea.

what does everyone else think?

It's not a bad idea, most of the reason we don't allow changing of usernames has to do with our site search, and most importantly, how we acquire new visitors to our site.

However, we can't allow special characters in usernames, only letters, numbers, and underscores are permitted.
