Is runescape better than world of warcraft?

I love WoW and someone recently recommended RuneScape. Is it just as good? What are the similarities and differences between it and WoW?

runescape is similar to WOW in many ways, but it is like a scaled down version compared to WOW.
in other words, it is free(membership may be bought, but not neccesar), and doesnt reqire any downloads or patches to play. Runescape is a much smaller world, with considerably less players.

it is a fun game, but in my opinion, WOW is the future version and dwarfs it in many aspects.

Its a question of balance. runescape is free, and wow is rather expensive. I've played both and runescape is a lot easier to get sick of. but try it, its good for a while, and almost as addictive

thats a question that cannot be answered by one person, you have to try both and make up your own mind. Runescape is certainly easier to acces, it costs nothing, there are no downloads, and you dont need any memory because its a flash game just search 'www.runescape.com' and your good to go, yes world of warcraft has better graphics but not nesisarily better better gameplay and to anyone who does'nt know.

Runescape is one of the crappiest games in history. the quests are boring, and the grinding is aweful, there is no involvement in the fighting.

I suggest neither. Games like world of warcraft and runescape are a huge waste of life. When you're an adult you'll wish you didn't waste your life playing stupid internet games. Runescape is an enjoyable game, that I find attracts the younger crowd. If you had a 12 year old and a 17 year old whom played world of warcraft that had never heard of runescape the 17 year old would probally find that runescape is stupid, the community is terrible, the game doesnt have anything to offer, its simplistic, and anyone could get to a high level. The 12 year old would probally decide that the community fits his personality, the play style for him is great, he enjoys the PVP and pve aspect of the game, but he could still prefer world of warcraft. Warcraft is an eleborate game that has much more to offer than runescape so its safe to say that wow is a better game. I played runescape for 3 years and found that it got repetitive quickly, and have been playing wow since release and have yet to become bored. I almost dropped when TBC popped, as the raiding material dissapointed me, but I stuck with it and now am glad that I did.

Simply put, In my opinion, and the opinion of a very hardcore gamer, World of warcraft dominates runescape.

I don't think WoW is better because I usually play FFXI which is better than both. However since a couple days ago I got on RS again and it's a lot different now and better! The reworked music, new animations and overall presentation of the game is a nice touch. Btw I never played WoW before and don't think I'd like it personally but am not saying it sucks. I don't say a game 'sucks' unless it has absolutely nothing going for it or there is nothing at all original about it or whatever! Check out RS free and play for about 3-4 months free. Finish all quests until you get to Dragon Slayer. Go members then it's well worth it. RS is fun but overplaying the game can get boring in which case you will need to take a break from it for a few days or more...then in the long run maybe a year or more like I did until I got back on it.

Here is the breakdown. I have a lvl 64 night elf rogue on WoW. I have a lvl 74 on runescape. I started playing runescape so was talked into trying WoW. I really enjoyed it until around lvl 45 when I realized it was all combat and that would never change. I burned out 6 lvls from having my 70. I then switched back to runescape. The graphics suck in comparison but there is so much to do other than kill kill kill. Runescape is easier to pick up. All you need is a browser. WoW looks better but they forgot what an MMORPG is supposed to be. If you would rather stick to the combat and quests involving nothing other than killing again and again then go for WoW. If you want some real variety to your gaming with no strings or crazy hardware to play then runescape is your game.

WoW = more pets
WoW = more monsters
WoW = better graphics
WoW = AWESOME background music
WoW = enough quests so that you'll never have to grind! ( to grind is to kill animals/monsters untill you level)
WoW = a HUGE world
WoW = being able to have addons in-game
WoW = unlimited sets of armour and what not
WoW = WHEN YOU DIE YOU WONT LOSE YOUR ITEMS!!!

both have pros and cons...but the big picuter, my opinion is that you will play wow till your lvl 70 then raid...which takes no skill...but gets you godo items. The and you think ohh I have godo items I can go be good at pvp and get BETTER items tehn you are really bad/suck and get angry and the game gets boring...its also VERRRYYY TIME CONSUMING

on the other hand runescape ..well runescape...its fun when your a member and well ya its fun when your a member. so if you want to pay for a membership (only $5 a month) then its a great game

Alright, I've seen both games and I've written a 25 paragraph essay called -The Captains Chronicle- on why WOW SUCKS. It is boooring. All you do is kill kill kill and run run run. jesus. Runescape gives you more stuff, more skills, more everything and you can actually apply yourself. To heck with you WOW fools. All you ever say is 'runescape sucks, look at the graphics', well graphics dont make games buddy. Most people that hate runescape also havent seen the newer forms and updates it has now. It may have been not so good a looong time ago, but now it is superior to WOW in just about every way except for your precious graphics and its improving at a higher rate than WOW so eventually we'll have better graphics too. If you want to make a smarter (and more financial) decision your best bet is to go for Runescape. Any ignorant moron like the guy right above me can GO &#^% themselves!

Well first of all, if you've never been a member on RuneScape then you haven't experienced the game. At all. Seriously, like 90% of RuneScape is members. I can hardly stand being on a free world these days because there's practically nothing to do in comparison.

Both games are great, it's really just a matter of personal preference. WoW is more about combat, raids and such.. while RuneScape has a ton of skills to work on of which most are non-combat related. RuneScape also has a lot of mini games such as a game where two sides of players aim to attack each other's castle and capture the other castle's flag. WoW doesn't have as many mini games but it has many bosses and raids to do which help high level players gear up.

It should be noted that RuneScape is a LOT harder to level in than WoW. If you're the type of player who isn't as committed as others then you will find it easier to get a higher level in WoW, although RuneScape keeps things fresh in its own way also with its large amount of skills to switch between and mini games to play.

So yeah, RuneScape is a fantastic game but so is WoW. Give RuneScape a try if you want then judge them yourself, but don't think you've even seen 10% of RuneScape if you never bought a membership or got past about level 90 combat.

Also I should add that being a member is beneficial not only because you get loads more content but because the players on members worlds are a lot more mature. Members worlds are home to many players at or older than the age of 20 who can actually hold a conversation, so you can escape all the spam and swearing of the preteens which tend to hang around the free worlds.

WoW is an extremely addicting game. I got bored of Runescape in a week. It really is a matter of opinion. However, I would stick with WoW in my opinion. I just love to pwn and camp horde. And there is a new expansion due out in the near future, so the cap will be raised to lvl 80.

Ok I need to clear a few things up. On 12-10-07 jagex (the creators of Runescape) released an update that basically destroyed the game. I moved and I didnt have internet for over a month. When I finally got internet I was so excited that I would be able to play Runescape. I was not aware that they even released the update the first hour or so I started playing. After about an hour I noticed things changed. Some of the most enjoyable aspects of the game were gone. Not all of the parts of the game that I enjoyed were gone or changed though but it wasnt enough to keep me playing the game. I wouldnt be surprised if jagex decided to change the game back to the way it was before the update because of all the canceled memberships and low number of players. With all that said I will now explain where WoW comes into the picture. After I found out what happend to Runescape I told all my friends that continued to play bye im going to start an account on WoW and to add me if they start one like the many of other players that once played Runescape. So now that my favorite mmorpg was ruined I had to switch to WoW because in my eyes it was the next best thing. For the record I think someone that posted above me somewhere mentioned final fantasy XI. Final fantasy XI is actually one of the worst mmorpgs I have ever played and I've had billing problems with them that has ended up costing me like 130$ because they screwed up. I've been playing Runescape for over a year. I started my account on WoW just about two weeks ago. So far WoW is better than the current version of Runescape but in my oppinion Wow will never compare to the way Runescape used to be. So with the way Runescape is now you would be better just playing WoW. Im not trying to make Runescape sound horrible or anything and if you havnt played it the way it was before the update then you will probably think its an ok game. Im saying that in my opinion Runescape used to beat WoW by a large margin but now, I think even Final Fantasy XI beats Runescape by a lil bit. In conclusion the answer to your question (is runescape better then World of Warcraft)is sadly, I would prefer to play tetris than to play 1 more second of Runescape, so the better game is WoW hands down.

Well, I've played both WoW (Level 70 Undead Rogue) and Runescape (Level 89), and in my opinion, WoW is much better, way better graphics and details, and more exciting, I mean come on, you try so hard to get rune and when you get killed POOF you have to work for it again, but on WoW you don't lose armour, and Blizzard is WAY WAY more stricter than Jagex, maybe you have to pay to play WoW, but it's frickin worth it believe me it is, once I found WoW Runescape was just not fun anymore, so I continue to play the most incredible MMORPG, FOR THE HORDE ! :P

And be patient, it much harder to lvl up than Wow so you have to stay with it .it also has more skills.

I played both and I agree WOW is great the people that created it are genius.

They are both good, but world of warcraft wins. But that doesnt mean Runescape sucks it just doesnt stand up to wow. Anyways it is better to switch on and off of both games so you can do something when you get bored of one of them.

I have played WoW for a year and Runescape for 5 monthes. Also most would agree with WoW and its more addictive but its just combat. I got to level 70 and its just stress. Once you get to 70 all you do is do BGs (Battlegrounds) and raids to get more equipment. Once you hit 70, if you got lame equipment you suck. Also they update the equipment like monthly and then you just waste your life doing Arena and Raiding for equipment that will suck next month, its a waste, and when the expansion comes out you'll just level to 80 and waste life getting more equipment. The game was fun but got stupid at the end-game.
