Is my tongue piercing really infected?

I've had my tongue piercing for 8 months now and I've had no problems up until last Thursday I notice a bit of pain. I didn't think anything of it because I have braces so pain in my mouth is normal. On saturday I was looking at my tongue cause it was...

bothering me, it was more swollen then normal and red underneith so I cleaned it with blue listerine and salt water. I kept doing this but it's not clearing it up, it's now Tuesday and I've been having pain, tongue is swollen around the piercing, its red underneith and there's puss coming out. I know puss is a sign of an infection but I'm cleaning it as much as I can and I haven't eaten because it irritates it. Should I contact my doctor?

YES
Now, or tomorrow at the latest. If the infection were to get out of hand, this could turn into a serious, possibly life threatening problem.
Do not fool around.

After you heal and the doctor OKs it, you can have your tongue re-pierced.
