There's nothing wrong about hating the way your last name is or sounds. If you want, try pronouncing it a different way so it sounds less embarrsing. I found out a couple of years ago that my last name was supposed to be pronounced a different way. But, it seemed eaiser to pronounce it the way I had been, so I kept it that way, and nobody seems to notice.

Your last name is a symbol of your family - your heritage.

If you lack pride in your family, then it's common to dislike your name...surely there's something somewhere in the history of your surname that you can take pride in?

Even though you hate your last name, it is still a part of who you are.
I think it's wrong to hate a last name, but that's only my opinion. I'm not
trying to judge you, but someday I'm sure you'll be happy with your name.

I t might help you to look into the meaning and/or origin of your name. It might mean something really beatiful and that could possibly help you to warm up to it. If it really is embarressing and bad sounding, I dont see anything wrong with changing it. I have had a couple of friends who have legally changed their names to something they like better and its not really that big of a deal. In my opinion life is too short to go through it carrying a name, everyday that you really don't like. It might be a good idea to come up with a different version of the same name that is similar but that you like better so you dont offend your family. It seems like people have been changing their last names slightly all through history. I f you have children I would think that in the long run they would appreciate not having to go through life with a not so great name.

P.S - I think Hart is really good as a last name. Also when I had to change my name when I got married, at first I couldn't handle it and it was weird, but as time went by and I got used to it then if I tried to write my old name I didn't like it. So you really can end up liking and feeling comfortable with a name you initially dont like.
Also your opinions, likes/dislikes and perspective can and usually does change a lot as you get older.

you shouldnt be ashamed of your familys name. your family might not seem like much. look into your family tree you will probably find some interesting people. like me I found someone from my family who died honorably in the battle of Iwo Jima trying to save a fellow soldier. now who wouldnt be proud of that?
