Is it ocd if you do it on purpose?

They say that cutting is linked to OCD, and that many people's eating disorders are heavily anchored in OCD. So, is it possible for it to be OCD if you do it on purpose?

no its not OCD because OCD isnt a choice, its a mental disorder (anxiety disorder). Thoughts that make people do things over and over again to make sure its done to perfection and to make sure they actually have done it. ee. cleaning. xx

If you do it on purpose, then you're aware of it - you chose to do it...that's not OCD, that's just stupid.

This is a very complicated question. OCD behaviors are obviously done on purpose. Yes OCD is a disorder, but at the end of the day it is possible to not choose to do the behaviors. Just as eating disorder behaviors are still a matter of choice. You can choose whether to eat or not (or purge, or exercise too much, you get the idea). If there was no choice in the matter, then it wouldnt be possible for people to get better. If that makes any sense? It is not like a psychotic disorder. With psychosis you have no actual choice. With OCD, eating disorders and cutting, it is possible to receive therapy and get better so you are no longer performing those behaviors. Obviously people are sick, just like any other disorder, and they are not purposefully wanting to engage in harmful behaviors (or have obsessive thoughts), but there is still the matter of choice here. I know it is a fine line here, you do not want to be blaming people for engaging in behaviors that they use to cope (in that sense they have no choice because these are behaviors they feel are necessary to engage in), but I do not want to say they do not have a choice because then there is a sense of helplessness. If there's no choice about the things they do then they cannot get better.

You seem to be very worried about this. Because it is hard to diagnose online (I mean it is hard to diagnose face to face let alone online), I really would suggest you talk to a doctor or a therapist...
