Is it legal in massachusetts for aunt to have sex with nephew?

OK,
Heres the story.

I live in Britain and have a friend in massachusetts who is in a real emotional state.

She is having sex with her nephew and wants to know if this is legal in massachusetts?

I have checked out Google on this matter but...

cant seem to find any info.

The boy is the son of her stepsister who is quite a bit older than her. She has been very close to her nephew for many years and feels she is now in love with him.

The closeness just happened gradually over a number of years.

There are quite a few issues I am talking her through but a lot hinges on this particular question as if sex is illegal and it is illegal for them to marry, then unless they move to another country with different laws, this will decide on the answers to a lot of other questions she has.

Any advice would be appreciated and can be addressed to her as I suspect she will be reading any replies.

I could have easily asked this anonymously but see no reason to do so.

if they are over age it doesn't matter if they are relative...no offense to rednecks but they actually marry their siblings so...

Ok, well, this is certainly strange but I guess love knows no bounds right? haha.

Well, I don't know about massachusettes, but in Canada the way it works is that she could marry anyone she wants as long as he's not her grandfather, father, son or grandson...so here she would be fine to marry him.
Also, although he is her nephew, they aren't blood related so it's not nearly as big of an issue as far as I'm concerned.
The main problem they would have to deal with is family reactions...Can you imagine what his mother--her stepsister--would say if she knew about it? Are they willing to potentially lose the respect, or entire relationship, of family members?

I wish them all the best and I hope they think through every option they have.

I live in florida..and if the kid its under age...its illegal anywhere in the states

The mother of my friends nephew is her actual sister, she just has a different dad.

I am British and live in Britain. The only time I have set foot in the States was for two hours in Huston waiting for a connection to Mexico City.

The couple in question see each other every week or so. I wish I could afford to commute 10,000 miles to the States every week or so.

it is illegal because that correction means they are blood relateceven if only by the mother. its illegal all over the world. if they both have the same mother they are blood related therefore making the nephew blood related. 25years in states for that. sorry

I thought that was the case but as I live in Britain, I thought it remotely possible they may have had some strange laws in Massachusettes.

Just needed to be sure before I advise, although, I know the person concerned has been checking out this link hence my later correction to the situation I posted above. (she advised me that I had made an error in the original question)
