Infected Monroe piercing how to reduce the swelling?

Okay, so I had my monroe pierced about a week ago. And it’s red around on my face and it’s hard and it’s kinda swollen. I’ve been washing my mouth out with mouthwash with no alcohol about 3 times a day,and washing around the area on my face with anti-bacterial soap. and it looks like I’m going to have a scar on my face, that you can totally see.unless I have the ring in. So is it in infected?

I wanted it to reduce the redning before tomorrow for school. :/ any advice would be great!

thanks :)

Ice and cold liquids are also suggested as much as possible for 3-5 days after the initial piercing. Also, don’t touch it unless you have JUST washed your hands. I’ve had mine for 2 weeks & it recently started swelling a lot because I’ve been messing with it.

I got my monroe on Saturday morning. It didn’t hurt then, and it has not started hurting yet. I got mine done from one of the best piercers in my city. Redness and Swelling are VERY natural, as well as the whitish, yellowish crusty build-up call lymph. Most likely, if it is just red and swollen and a little tender, then you are probably fine, but if it is very painful then there is a chance that it is.

To reduce the discomfort of swelling, I take ibuprofen every 6 hours or so. Also, cold foods really help bring down the swelling, and when it is feeling sore, then you should make green tea (without sugar) and put the hot, damp bag on it. The moisture and the heat will help ease it, but green tea also has anti-microbial and antioxidant properties that will also keep it clean and can reduce any infections (if you do have one).

When you finally get the swelling down, you should be able to determine if it is truly infected, but if not, you can ALWAYS go back to your piercer to ask their opinion.

dont put soap on it!!! its just cloges it up! and then your piercing cant breath. clean around the area with sea salt water you can but it at the place you got it pierced because sea salt will clean any piercing

Answer #6

Best thing that worked for me was soaking a cotton ball in hot saline solution and putting it on the piercing till it cools down then I personally put vitamin E on it.

It helped with the redness and I never got an infection.

Piercings though are agitated for awhile, the time depends on the person. I mean come on you just had a metal bar shoved through your face. Your body is bound to be mad.

I got my monroe 2 days ago and it is swollen red and still bleeding a little and I think its infected because there is green slime that I can push out it is nasty I have been using mouthwash and sea salt any other idea’s

Answer #8

I got my monroe 4 days ago. It didn’t swell a lot for the first two days, but is a little more swollen now. I haven’t seen this mentioned on here but my piercer suggested using a product called glyoxide on the inside of my mouth to help aid the healing process. It can be found at local drugstores where the mouthwash, etc. is located.

I got mine done like 5 days ago.. it was a tiny bit swollen but not too noticeable at alll!!! thank god,. but its red around the hole now but im assuming thats normal, bc I have my bellybutton, nose , and now monroe and they were all fine.. I guess just give it time and clean it, but not too much b/c that can prolong the healing.

I got mine done 2 weeks ago and it is still red. It still swells too. When can I put in my monroe diamond ring? I have been swishing my mouth with sea salt and it seems to be helping with the swellen. Can I switch from a 14guage to a 16 gauge? If so how do I go about doing it?And when can I change it?

Answer #13

well I just pierced mine about 2 days ago and its really swollen and red. how do I take down the swollen and about how long till it goes down?

Answer #14

If it is exaggeratedly swollen, then it is not normal. My first monroe never swelled at all, and it took about 4 weeks to heal properly, but a keloid made me remove it. I had one made in the other side of the lip and it has swollen in the course of a day a hell lot. I looked punched in the face too, so I removed it and discovered the swelling was caused by infection. Even after removing the stud, my lip is still a bit swollen, yet I put warm chamomile tea on it to soothe it.

Answer #18

Swelling and redness is normal depending on the person it can range from 2 to 8 weeks to heal. Don’t freak just keep cleaning with sea salt water. Carry a bottle with salt water so you can use it everything you eat or smoke.
