When I was in the military I we did wind sprints as a way to improve stamina after having already gotten into a mild workout routine. WInd sprints are done on any standard oval track, say at your nearest high school or whatever. Jog on the straightaways and sprint on the curves, running as fast as you can. Use the straightaways to get ready for the next curve. You may start out only doing one lap, but like anything else if you keep at it. You'll get better, and it will drastically improve your abilities during normal running or jogging.
