How can I get my boyfriend to trust me?

I've been with my boyfriend for over 8 months. this is both of our longest relationships, its been a rough road. we boht feel that its worth it to work on it. but lately hes been trying to control everything I do.. one of his friends told him I cheated on him while he was out of town on a work trip, but I didnt. now everytime I leave I have to bring him with and when I go to work he drives me to and from, I dont mind spending time with him, I love him, but sometimes I just want to go out and have fun with my friends. Im am more then faithful to him but its like he doesnt trust me.. what should I do? please help!

put it to him straight look I didn't cheat on you I don't intend to cheat on you so will you stop being over protective over me because I can't breath.I just want to go out with my friends once in a while without you hanging around me watching my every move.Good luck
