Ignorance?

Asked by trisarahtops about 1 year ago, 10 answers.

So, recently I answered a question about Barack Obama. (politics)
And someone said that because I'm sixteen that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Do you believe that because someone is sixteen, or younger than you that they might not know more?

Go Obama!!!
I am 13 and my parents are republican but I still am a democrat. Just because your underage doesnt mean you don't believe in things.

Age has to do more with experience then education sometimes. If your interested in politics at sixteen you can know what your talking about. You'll be able to vote in just two years so it's good that you gaining knowledge about it know.

You can't trace a solid correlation between political awareness and age, the few exceptions might be young children who have yet to read up on issues, policies, etc.

For example, I've read here blatant lies recited by both teens too young to vote, and people that I would think are too old to believe in fairy tales.

That being said, I didn't read your answer specifically, I'm responding to the general question.

uhm I hate to be biast... but yes... because with age comes wisdom... You may understand the concept of certain things like politics but your arent directly affected by it to get the true feel of it. Also younger unset minds are easily influenced, I'm only 19 and my brain isnt fully developed. It wont be until about 22-23... Sorry Thats my opnion.

Djwager I totally get where your coming from by the 'feel' of it. Like taxes, and voting and other things. But, just because I'm younger than someone doesn't mean that I don't know what the politicians are talking about. And that's what THEY were getting at. Which is stupid.

In some cases, I think their are times when age does count. I mean, I see a truckload of teens on here who get carried away with their hormones when it comes to relationships, while those of us who are older shake our heads and grimace.

However, I don't doubt that someone 7 years my junior knows loads more than me in certain topics (for example, politics). Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and provided you know your stuff and can back it up, I say express your opinion.

But whatever you do, never be afraid to admit you are wrong on something- if some evidence pops up which changes your opinion, don't ever be ashamed of it.

No I don't. Many people think that I can't understand something just because I'm only 13. Yet I can outwitt them. Like if someone who was 20 and had a perfect life compared to a 10 year old that's been abused all her life. How can she NOT learn a thing or two? Experience and Knowledge does not always come from age.

Let's see, her post was focused on the topic at hand (Obama vs. McCain), and YOUR response to her post consisted mostly of bashing her age. Your reaction was that of a person with an inferiority complex. True or not, I would expect a person in your position, the ''more mature experienced one'' ...to not react in such a brash and juvenile manner.

But then again, I don't base maturity on age, I base it on experiences.
