If mccain wins, will we get more state rights?

Jeremy Goodrich yep, that's me Asked by thedude (Online now) about 1 year ago, 7 answers.

So far, Bush has used every excuse under the sun to exercise Federal authority, and restrict rights of the states. One high profile example is the ATF arrests of people for using medical marijuana, which is legal in California per the will of the people...

in OUR state, and the FEDERAL agency interfered.

Which if you read the laws, since the passing, the State law is in direct contradiction to Federal US law. So, Republicans have always stood up for the rights of states, and the federal government taking a backseat.

If McCain promises he'll uphold state rights over Federal rules, I'd vote for him in a heart beat. However, Bush betrayed me, by taking Federal law over my state law (I'm a native Californian, I was born here, as were my parents, and most of my family lives in California).

So Republicans, why is Bush taking the Federal stance against my amazing state? Why isn't McCain standing up for one of the traditional party values?

I say that when McCain says look at his long experience in government, that means his voting also. And he is 90% in lockstep with Bush, so Thedude, I would expect more of the same.
My problem with McCain is, as Nancy Keenan of NARAL puts it,He (McCain) voted against family planning, he voted against the freedom of access to clinic entrances — that was about violence against women in clinics. He voted against funding for teen pregnancy-prevention programs, and making sure that abstinence only was medically accurate. This is very, very extreme.
He has a record of 96% AGAINST not just abortion, but any family planning, safe sex, use of condoms, or even medically accurate information on reproduction.
OK. I've had my political say for the day.
Hope everyone has a fine day.
I think I'll go to the York Fair. Today is opening day and it runs for 10 days.

FAIR FOOD!!! WAHOO.
Funnel Cakes, deep fried candy bars, chicken and waffles (for my girlfriend, not me), and pounds (around the waist) more.
I'll see you at the fair.
Good Luck to all!!

None of us know for sure what any of the candidates would actually do after elected - one would hope they are true to their word - bottom line, all we can do is 'wait and see' unless someone has a crystal ball.

The trend toward expanding federal power in the US began long before Bush, Jr. became president. It's been an ongoing process for most of American history. And it's not going to reverse if McCain is elected president. States don't have the same sovereignty they once did, and they never will again.

Then, republicans should make it clear that's NOT an issue they care about anymore, instead of (like some have done in recent years) using it as a pillar of their campaign.

I hate liars.

thedude,

I agree. States' rights should no longer be something either party pretends to care about. If they did, their presidential candidates wouldn't pledge to do much of anything, they would instead review a whole laundry list of matters that need to be turned back over to the states.

It's interesting to me that after the US rejected the Kyoto treaty on climate change, hundreds of local governments sprang into action, taking measures to abide by Kyoto protocols. I still have enormous faith in state and local government in the US, and I just hope that can remain.
