Because there is no god. The various attempts of theists to justify suffering always come across as glib, condescending, or just plain arbitrary. Try telling someone who is suffering from cholera due to a bad water supply that it's all god's plan or that it's their fault - or someone else's fault. See how much it comforts them to know god is looking out for them and watching them suffer and die.

The answer that most Christians recite when this question comes up is that God gave human beings free will, and if they choose to use that free will to commit atrocities on one another, that is our responsibility, not God's.

When asked what free will has to do with creating a world in which children can be born with half of their absorbed twin sticking out of their chest or where disease, famine, and plague so ravage a people that they are forced to decide between feeding their children or themselves or where Parkinson's disease leaves His children trapped in crippled bodies until they choke to death, they usually mumble something about God's unknowable ways and change the subject.

EDIT AFTER READING nevets815's ANSWER: Wow. Hit the nail on the head better than normal that time.

If you read the bible, you will see that he foretold all of this, that would come to pass. This is a result of allowing man to have freewill. God will intervene when he is invited to do so, thru prayer, otherwise, man is left to follow his own inclinations.

We just happen to live in the final days, of this culmination.

God will set up a new earth for those who love him, and willingly obey his command,

Everything else, will be destroyed by fire. The earth will be purged... cleansed... once again, and for a final time. Only the redeemed of the Lord, will be allowed to enter into this realm.

Seek the Lord, with all your heart, so that you too, may be a part of this joyous celebration. Let the Redeemed of the Lord, say so.

God bless...

Because we make thoughes decisions because we can decide if we follow the path of the lord or the devil. And little kids doe because it was there time. It may e a short life but god knows every thing. He only does things for a reason. Dont blame god. Life is a test and most people will fail and go to hell. And thats why the world is such a bad place.

b/c not ALL people are his children...if your God's child he will help you, he never promised it be a bed of roses and that life wont happen, however he did say he'd be there to help us through it...our earthly father cant always protect us b/c theres some things we bring upon ourselves, same way with God, some of his children bring it upon themselves what they go through and some wont let God be a father to them...but like I said not everybody is his child...dont expect him to bring people through who dont even believe in him...also he knows what is best for us even though we dont see it that way, remember we people see through earthly eyes, God doesn, theres a purpose for everythin...as far as rapes, some bring it upon themselves too...some chicks dress like sluts but they say their not, then dont be dressin wit ya boobs out ya shirt or ya butt peekin from ya shorts or skirt, that gets guys and that makes them want to do, and not all of them get rape, they have sex and then notice they did somethin wrong and just say rape so they can get off...im not sayin thats all cases but that is some...I know a chick that did that, she had sex with an older dude, got pregnant, so she told her parents he raped her...God is always there..but look at our country, our country has put god aside and has told that he isn important...people makes their own choices, and remember the devil is fighting too and people gives in to him and then they get screwed...where is God?? he is here but people wont accept him or realize that, remember this is earth not Heaven...sin is out there and all those things you mentioned are from the devil, he is runnin around too and people are followin him...ill say it again, if youre not God's child...God doesn have to do anythin for you...God said he'd protect His children and watch over them and help them through their battles...

Well you can ask yourself this question: What is the point of having a god or believing in god if terrible things still happen?

God...is doing his job.

It isnt his fault people dont believe in him...

It isnt his fault people do what they want...

We have free will...

Simple as that...

But remember...those people who do bad things...most of em dont follow God...
and thats why.

There are no leprechauns. There are no fairies. There are no dragons, ghosts, or alien abductions. ...and there are no gods.

Life seems unfair and random, because it actually is unfair and random. It's not the result of some bizarre convoluted plan of an invisible magic man who used to be associated with celestial objects and lived in the sky, but in more modern times has been given a home safely outside nature where he can not possibly be detected, and his sky home 'heaven' now understood to be metaphysical rather than just up in the clouds like the ancients who invented these myths believed.

Everything that happens, happens for a reason. All the children/people dying have probably finished their mission or purpose here on earth, or it could be that their purpose is to pass away and make someone else stronger, or push someone to do something they are ment to do. You must also realize that their is more to god than just to make things perfect. The Bible explains thoroughly that WE have brought all the hardships and struggles upon ourselves, but God will use them to his and our advantage. He uses the bad times to make us stronger, to give us ideas, and to drive us forward.

Everything happens for a reason.

So... instead they should blame themselves and/or the devil for all the things that go wrong, and praise god when things turn out good?

what the f*ck!
We have only ourselves to blame for our actions, thats the point of free will.
And do you honestly want your free will taken away?
NO not everyone that doesn't know God is bad!
NO not everyone that claims to know God is good!
But as it says in scripture and I have experienced for myself, that after you know God you want to do right, you can see clearer what is the correct choice when you come to a crossroads.
Can you believe that He sent his only son to die for us?
And no matter what you have done he is willing to forgive us?
That kindof love is so hard for us to understand, and he makes it so easy that it is diffecult to do.
You have the chocie of what you believe and where you stand, but be strong and aware of your choice.
I studied every religion that I could find out about before I chose to become a child of God.

One person talked about free will and what it has to do with all the pain. Let's say you created a race car that was intended to only run on a specially made fuel. Let's say someone who was allowed to run the race car decided they knew better than the one who created this car. They decide to put in cheap diesel fuel. This car might run but with a lot of sputtering and maybe not at all. So now we decide to dress it up, paint it a new color, put in a fancy radio, and nice leather seats. But it woulnd't be running the way it was created by it's creator. Starting to get the point. The world would not be experiencing pain and suffering if it collectively would agree it has no idea how to live this life. That only the one who created us does and only as He lives through us (the special fuel) would experience this life as He intended. Of course we woulnd't make this decision because we have a free will and we know better. So was that good enough Christian mumbling for you?
