Ideas for a scavenger hunt

It sounds a bit hokey, but it is something we are doing for charity and the small group of fellow philanthropists and I are racking our brains to figure out a good event to raise money and involve the community. Someone suggested a scavenger hunt where...

we split up the children we are working with and volunteers in the community and hunt for things across town. Sounds like a good idea but we are all having a bit of creative blockage. Anybody think of any ideas to help some kids have fun and make some money to help with their medical bills?

That sounds like a good plan, actually. Perhaps hide the stuff they are supposed to find at local businesses, so that when you write it up promote the event on local radio, print publications, etc, the sponsors get a write up perhaps some pictorial coverage as well.
