I want to be religious...

:) Asked by ash2491 12 months ago, 18 answers.

Ever since I was little, I've always thought of religion as like a fairy tale, and I knew that fairy tales were not true, hence I have not believed in God or anything spiritual, ever. I often find myself crying because I'm really scared to die, and it...

would be nice to have that sense of comfort in knowing that I would be alive after dying. I wish I could believe, but it's hard for me to. It just doesn't seem logical to me, the whole religion... I guess really what I'm asking is how can I make myself believe?

***I want to be religious...***

This made me wonder. Which issue is really troubling you? Do you actually want to 'be religious' or do you want to 'believe in God'? I think the latter would be more beneficial to you...

Well choose a religion and go seek help.

If you want to be Christian go to a Church or talk to a priest.
If you want to be Muslim go to a Mosque and talk to a shaikh.
etc.

You know you want to be and you just need to find out how, I'm sure that you can find help.

Or, what doesn't seem logical to you?

Any religion is believing the impossible.
Im a christian and a lot of nonbelievers ask how is any of that possible, I just say I have faith.
if you wont to have a religion find one that you can believe in and seek.
Best of luck C:

You will feel a warm presence of contentment when you feel God's love. Just think about it, how much harm can it do you to live by God's rules and words as too the punishment of not living that way and there really being consequences. Seems like a pretty simple solution. God is good and everything that believes in him will have everlasting life. What a gift. I would believe, I do believe and pray that you do to. Just ask God to show you the way and he will.

Religion is not JUST believing. It is having faith in what you believe.

Faith is believing

I don't believe in God either. I'm wiccan. Its okay not to believe in anything not provable. My believes in wicca are slightly differnt than most because of this.

That would be nice, wouldn't it? But it doens't work that way. Most religious people are just as afraid of death as you are. Your subconscious seems to know that religion is just you trying to fool yourself, and it doesn't let you totally get away with it.

I have been to a penacostal church. Not proof. And as for Wiccans are evil. I am Wiccan. We are not evil. We have nothing to do with evil. We don't even believe in evil beyond a man made concept. When will you learn you arguments that Wicca is evil is invalid? What the hell

You are on a God search. I spent most of my life not believing, then when science couldn't answer the really interesting questions, I looked elsewhere.

I have found my God. He's not like many others, but I believe we are all talking with the same guy, just learning about him in different ways and looking his telephone number up in different books.

Find a religion that you feel might fit, start talking with the members, go to the house of God whatever that might be until you learn more about it. And you can move on until you find the right fit.

I visited many before I settled on my current beliefs, and they have a little to do with a number of religions.

My experience parallels sea02florida, just reversed. I spent much of my life looking for answers in faith. It left me with nothing but continued frustration. Then I learned how to think critically, and lost the fear to doubt and question that which I had been taught.

Don't find a religion just for the sake of having something to believe or have faith in. There is no reason to fear death just because you don't believe in an afterlife. In fact, it makes this life all the more worth living, when you realize it's all there is.

Fear of death (mortality), in one form or another, is probably the most common reason people practice religion. But its also one of the worst reasons.

The benefit of religion lies not in the 'practice' ...but in the BELIEF.

You can't be religious without actually BELIEVING the message it conveys. Otherwise, you'd just be living a lie. If you cannot find a religion that is believable to you, then there's really no point.

Hi honey... (((hugs)))

I think the Lord is drawing you, or you wouldn't feel the way you do. You are admitting that you want to believe, which is very good. I am praying for you, and asking for prayer also. I think you will begin to see some changes.

Father, I pray for this dear young lady, that you would indeed, touch her by the power of your spirit, drawing her to yourself, and to your word. Help her faith to grow, so that she can find the comfort that you provide, lead her in the direction you would have her to go, and protect her from everything that would hinder her, draw her into the word, and reveal yourself to her, thru the power of your spirit. I bind the spirit of unbelief that is keeping her away, and I give you praise, for breaking thru, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

God bless you...

Your search may go on for decades, it may be found tomorrow. It is a journey that you take. You might wind up an atheist, you may be some religion's next saint.

But the journey is yours. I'm a slow learner it took a long time for me and I certainly won't be anyone's saint. I delved deeply into science and it answered many of my questions as it has in all areas of life. But it failed in answering the REALLY IMPORTANT questions.

Atheists will tell you that there is no God. I find that there is no answer but a God. Find yours.

I think he's the same as mine. But what is important is what you find.

Of course there are other answers besides god, saying there isn't is like saying that the only answer is that the Earth is flat or in the center of the universe. This may seem evident, but we know they're not true.

When I was little I use to think the moon followed me, it seemed like the only logical answer but now I know it's a matter of parallax and perspective, and that the moon that appeared to be near in the sky is actually a quater of a million miles away.

Science doesn't have all the answers but it's not any better to fill the blanks of time, logic, and scale with god either.

I was the same way ash2491, but I never wanted to be religious, so instead I welcomed my atheism, and took an interest in science.

If it's just the whole religioin, why not look into other religions, or just believe in a version that works for you? There's not much I can say, since you say you can't believe.
