I'm 20 years old and I just had sex for the first time and me and my boyfriend have both noticed that afterwards my vagina has a bad smell. Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

The doctor can help but he may also tell you that for you that scent is normal. If it is, you may not be able to do anything to change it. You can mask it or power etc but ea woman’s scent is unique to her. What you consider a turn off may well be the best turn on for a man.
Check it out but don't worry too much about it. Just be clean and neat about yourself and let normal be normal. Good luck

OK.. you've had a bunch of men answer your question and I don't think they know what they're talking about. As a 28 year old ladies who's been active for about 13 years now I will tell you if you guys are having sex w/o a condom and if his semen stays inside of you for a couple hours it will begin to smell a little stank. Is this what is happening..or are we talking right after because maybe your boyfriend has funky smelling semen due to thing like diet. My suggestion to you is to use the restroom after sex each time (it also helps prevent painful UTIs) and try and get some of his semen out of you.

wagamama is right. It is actually the semen. Try taking a shower afterwards. Dont use soap just rinse down there. Also dont douche. Douching messes with you alkaline balance and leads to yeast infections. You boyfriend might want to get more fruits and vegetables in his diet =D

Im the third one on here that is going to blame any gross smell on the semen.Even a small amount of pre cum smells disgusting.Try making him wear a condom or make him pull out and come in a wash cloth or napkin.

I would get a bad fishy odor smell after sex too (for 3 years!)... It's called Bacterial Vaginosis and if left untreated it can help cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and Infertility. BUT I finally decided to just start eating yogurt. So, go get diagnosed (pelvic swab and microscope) and get your medicine (best I find is Metro-gel inserts for 5 days. You can use it while on your period but no alcohol intaking). You might get a yeast infection from it because of the imbalance the medicine can cause so be prepared to use over the counter stuff for that. But through alll of this eat one or two yogurts a day. Ever since I started eating Activia/Yo+ while during my last metro-gel treatment and since through having intercourse with my husband it has not come back (and it was constantly reoccuring). I almost don't believe it but the smell is totally gone. Docs have told me to eat yogurt but they didn't explain why but I know now that it's boosted some resistance to infection - there is no smell AT ALL. Try it - why not?
OH - And do NOT douche - that's NOT going to cure you.

You could try having sex with me, instead.

You would have to be screened for STD's, stupidity, overweight, or poor attitude.

Provided you pass the screening, my stuff will make you smell like roses. No more stinky semen for you.

All of these responses are incorrect, it is called Bacterial Vaginosis and it is as common as a yeast infection but you need to go to the gyn doctor for proper medication and please don't put yogurt on it, whoever wrote that is an idiot!

after sex the cum is more acidic and if the sex is good there shuld be a lot of it...like it just smells different because the pH changes it just like in food. in food acidic and basic foods have different tastes, which affect smell also. just go to the bathroom or rinse over the hairs after.

It's the semen! I get this but only the day after he a man has ejaculated inside me, and maybe the day after that too. It never happens at other times when I haven't had sex, or if I have sex using a condom. It happened a lot when I was trying for a baby last year as we weren't using condoms. I am now with a different man (the previous relationship didn't work out and I never got pregnant) and it happens with him too. I know it's not an STI as he and I have both recently been tested and got the all-clear.
If it was bacterial vaginosis you would have this symptom all the time, not just for the couple of days after sex. Unless you have sex every day of course!
I combat the problem by using frequently changed tampons to keep the smell in, and carry a supply of vaginal wipes like Femfresh so I can freshen up throughout the day.
