is twins being lesbians genetic?

No it's not. I know twins, one if them is a lesbian and one is straight. I also know lots more twins who are not lesbian at all as they run in my family ha. Oh and also being gay is not genetic. It is not an inheritable characteristic. There is no gene for being gay. I study genetics in school lol trust me.

you study genetics in school and someone who actually knows what they're talking about told you that sexuality had nothing to do with genetics? well either they're lying, or they're ignorant...

thegirlnextdoor, your question is a little unclear... research has shown sexual orientation to be partially genetic... obviously environment plays a role in this too... but yes, if one identical twin is gay, there is a higher chance that the other identical twin will also be gay...

Yeah we were told that it has nothing to do with genes. Id like to see what research has shown it btw so I can show my class? Lol. Plus it makes more sense that its not linked with genes. First of the purpose of a gene is to pass on a characteristic to offspring, gay people cant do this because they cant reproduce together. Its not a genetic thing. Its more environment. As I said there is no gene for being gay. If there was how did the first gay person become gay? Where did they get the gene for it? I know you prob mean that its just been shown that there is a link between the two but there is definitly no gay gene. I didnt say sexuality and genes werent linked I said there is no gene for being gay. There couldnt be, it wudnt get passed on.

Lol, I wish you luck in college, but one can hardly fault your simplistic view of genetics if that is what you've been taught. Surprising, I would think that by high school you would learn that it is not simply genes that are expressed that are passed down. My friend teaches middle school science and even her kids know better. As for the first gay person becoming gay, uhm that argument is circular in nature, because I would argue that you do not become gay. No one is any life time has decided that their lives were just so damn easy that they needed a whole lot of trouble from bigots and they just needed to start dating people of the same sex. As for your argument that gay people do not reproduce together, that again, would be incorrect... gay men and lesbians can indeed reproduce, however gay people have been in heterosexual marriages since the beginning of people, so really, again the point is redundant. As for the gene, there isnt a particular gene they have found, but they have found certain areas, and have found genes to influence about 50% of the variance. And, whether or not they have found a gay gene is irrelevant. Your answer to the original question was entirely false... There is a high link between siblings sexualities (I know you have trouble with this one, see being gay is a sexuality...).

Perhaps this article will help, although if you want actual journal articles, those too are available... http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1925
