good foods to avoid hyperactivity are things without all the cards, and calories, try lamb and rice meal, with some fresh carrot, or go get it a trainer if it is too much to handle. This is my pup, an dshe used to be the same way, but a lot of exersice goes a long way with behavioral problems
If he's getting enough exercise, that will help. Is he getting to run? Pits are hyper little buggers. Make sure he's worn out and he should calm down.
Also put some time into training him. Jumping up on people is a behavior that can be corrected with training.
Ditto to all the above... exercise and obedience training will do far more to bringing this puppy under control, than a change of food (tho I don't know what you're feeding)...
Please note, that he really IS still a puppy...with all the exhuberance and joie de vie he had at 3 months, only now he's bigger. Put a leash on him when people come to the door and teach him to sit/stay (or all four on the floor), before he gets any attention.
Going to an obedience class with this boy will also give him a sense of a 'doggie social' life...and Pits need lots of socialization...He'll mature at about 18 months or so, and tho he might still be hyper (some of this is dictated by his genes)...but you will notice a difference in the excitability.

trust me I have the same problem...I have a 90lb pit and he is very hyper at times...and he loves to jump on people...but it takes some time and effort to get them to stop...food does not have as much to do with the dogs excitement as the dog being a puppy does...pit are just energetic by nature and I dont care what you feed them they will bounce off the walls...so just be patient and persistant...trust me I know your pain
