Wow makurbird, I think you need to brush up on your religions before you answer somebody's question on religion. First off, yes, people will go to hell supposedly, then the rest inherit the earth, not go to heaven, you'ld know this if you actually read the bible.

Second off, it's only natural for children to tell their parents a personal choice. I was iffy on telling them I've become a witch. Hell, I was iffy on telling mine when I made the decision to move from FL to Missouri. The thing of the matter is, you're raised one way. It is your choice whether to follow through with what you've been raised to believe in, but if you choose not to, it's only natural to feel a bit intimidating to tell. One f the mains reasons is because people like you sully smudge the name, deranging demonizing it into something it isn't. I believe you should do some research, true research on what this religion is before opening your mouth about it.

Getting back to the question.
I never really told my mother, she just kind of figured it out. Then again, it's kind of hard for her not to when I started wearing pentagrams, lol. Perhaps you can do that, or just sit down talk to her about it.
Or here's something that might help.
I was recently doing some research on a subject, though the site was completely unrelated to the subject, I', glad I came across it. I can link people asking the question to the site 1_~
Surprisingly, it's not bad.

If she is really open-minded, then just say: Mom, I wanna be a wiccan

Simple as that.

That's what I did when I decided not to accept Jesus in my heart รต.o

I have a feeling that your mother's mind might be a little less open when you declare your intent. Is there some reason why you feel you must tell her?
I am a parent of a 30 year old and I never wanted to know everything he was doing, unless it was illegal.

Vampire all I can say is, if you de-convert from xtianity, made a rational decision about why you leave xtianity, then surely you could be able to see that you are moving from one possible delusion to the next. The advice I want to give you is: Study the origin of religions and believes up to a point where you can make sense out of it, then make a decision on what to do next, or whether you should even bother to de-convert.

Why would you want to open yourself up to a dark demonic force like this? God loves you draw close to Him. The Bible warns us not to engage in such behavior.

THIS IS SIMPLE..IF YOU ARE QUESTIONING WHETHER YOU SHOULD/SHOULDNT TELL YOUR MOM WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE, RELIGION, BIBLE, FLESH ETC. THEN IT MUST NOT BE RIGHT. YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART ITS SOMETHING TO HIDE.. BECAUSE IF IT WASNT YOU WOULDNVE ASKED THE QUESTION. RESPECT HER TALK ABOUT IT..I HOPE YOU DONT CHOSE THIS WORLDLY MESS. BUT THEN IF YOU DO. THERE IS REPROCUSSION. THINK ABOUT ETERNITY. PEOPLE WHO DONT SPEAK POSITIVE OR EITHER SCARED, DONT CARE OR JUST DONT KNOW. AND THAT IS SAD TO BE HERE ON EARTH AND KNOW THAT ONE DAY MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WILL BE IN OR GOING TO HELL AND OTHERS TO HEAVEN.

***Why would you want to open yourself up to a dark demonic force like this?***

I have pointed this out COUNTLESS times. It's just ANOTHER religion, not a demonic force. You obviously don't even know what it entails.

As for the question.
I don't see any reason to tell your mother your religious preferences (at least not untill you are out of the house). Religion always causes drama because people aren't as open-minded as you think they are. So just don't say a thing (for now) and practice what you want to practice.

ifeelcrazy has a very valid point. Also, just because your mom had/has wiccan friends, that doesn't mean she'll be open minded when her baby decides to leave the church. Catholics make a vow to raise their children as catholics when the baby is christened. It's not something parents take lightly, I assure you. I attend mass because I want to, and because I think it's beautiful and traditional. I dislike church services at most other denominations, but especially non-denom churches. I miss the beauty, the tradition, the history, and somewhere to kneel. =P lol

At any rate, most Catholics tend to stray from the church for a period, and find themselves drawn by nostalgia to return. We've explored other possibilities, but find that the mass is most comforting to us, which is the point of religion, is it not? However, I for one was too chicken to tell my mom that I didn't believe in Catholicism during that period, and so she never knew that I had looked into Wicca, and other more earth based religions. She happily thinks that I am a devout catholic girl now, even though my ideas regarding religion would be, and have been, scoffed at by fellow christians.

Whether or not you choose to tell her, think about her happiness first. Is it more important that you tell her that you're exploring Wicca, or could you do so without informing her, and only after having experienced it, show her, with valid points, how your life has improved by not following *her* faith. Personal happiness is by far the most important, but should you make your mom fret over your soul without need?

agreed with vampchic
Wicca is not of the devil
Satanism is of the devil
Even Christianity could be called of the devil, for what does believing do but give the belief power?

I'd leave off telling her anything at all until you are sure of your own path unless you come from the kind of family that likes to have passionate theological discussions over dinner.

If and when the time comes, just tell her that you found the Biblical conception of the divine too constraining and narrow. As you study wicca you should read up on Christianity as well so that you can cogently articulate what it is that doesn't suit you. That will earn you more respect in the long run.

Also, respect her spiritual life. Just because you don't feel Catholic or even Christian, do go slamming her faith at every opportunity either.

Unfortunately, most beginner books will pit Christianity against Paganism like a gigantic battle between too opposing forces, one free and primordial and the other oppressive and unnatural. Don't be duped, history, people and culture are far more complicated than that.

Faith is an affair of the heart, you don't need to go broadcasting it. Just be honest should it crop up.
